Personal Details

I qualified from the Welsh National School of Medicine in 1980. The following year I began a 16 year career in the Royal Air Force and was lucky enough to become a Senior Medical Officer at 3 fast-jet stations flying, in turn, Hawk, Jaguar and Tornado aircraft. I also spent many years involved with aeromedical evacuation and spent 6 months in Belize as the aeromedical evacuation coordinating officer. I also managed to be part of the RAF Air-Sea Rescue organisation for a period of 5 years. During this period I undertook study for the Diploma in Aviation Medicine and the RAF Advanced Aviation Medicine Course. I was subsequently awarded Membership of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Leaving the RAF in the mid 1990s I entered General Practice in Bicester and continued my aviation practice initially at RAF Brize Norton and then took over the AME post at Oxford Airport in 1999. I have worked closely with the staff and students at Oxford Airport since that time. I now hold clinics at Langford Medical Practice (Alchester Medical Group) on a weekly basis. I am a fully accredited trainer in general practice, an examiner for the MRCGP examination and hold the FRCGP qualification personally. I am also an associate GP Dean at the Oxford Postgraduate Deanery and hold a Fellowship to the Higher Education Academy.
